The Adult ministry at First Baptist Church in Newton is growing this year, with the addition of the new Sunday school program. There are various classes on Sunday school (9:30-10:15) for adults to choose from. Social and moral issues, prayer and support, and small group bible study are the subjects tackled by the adult program. Outside speakers will come in to share their information and educate us on community needs. Each program is led by other adults from various backgrounds who share their expertise with those of the parish.

The adults are very much a part of the life of the church. Whether they are participating in worship as choir members, lay leaders, greeters, or ushers. Several members are ordained ministers who currently serve in various settings or are retired and can share their experiences with the church community.

Fellowship

One of our favorite traditions is “Guess Whose Coming to Dinner?” where twice a year, members of the Church community come together and visit the homes of various members for dinner and fellowship. The fun part is we don't know who is going to be there until we arrive. It is a great time for adults and families to come together.

At the Church, we have weekly fellowship time after worship. We also have two traditional picnics to celebrate the start of the new Sunday school year in September and to celebrate the year's accomplishments in June. Other activities and events throughout the year give adults the opportunity to join in fellowship for fun, enrichment and worship.

Boards and Committees

First Baptist Church in Newton has various boards and committees through which adults can volunteer to serve the church and join in fellowship with fellow members. They serve in the capacity of church officers, four boards, and various committees. When you attend our annual church business meeting and luncheon, it will be obvious that the Church could not function without the effort and help of the adults who volunteer their time, talents, and gifts to the church.
